Online-Only Worship

Dear Westside Family,

You may have seen in the news this week that the state of California has issued new guidelines for churches and other places of worship. In light of the growing number of cases and hospitalizations across our state—including Kern County—California has directed churches to stop the practice of singing together as a group.

Our elders and ministers met together this afternoon to discuss how to proceed. We prayed together and carefully considered a few options, and have now decided to go back to online-only worship starting this Sunday, July 5th at 9am. We did not make this decision lightly.

We believe strongly that singing is a crucial part of our worship, so we are committed to finding a way to continue to sing our praises to God. Although this is certainly not our first choice, we believe that meeting in our homes and singing along with the livestream is a reasonable solution to the public health crisis that our government is trying to combat.

No one on our leadership team would be willing to follow a law that banned singing (or praying, taking Communion or reading the Bible) outright, but we are willing to temporarily move back to online worship in order to sing in a way that protects the health of our church—and by extension, the community in which we live.

We know that there are strong opinions on both sides, and we thank you for your spirit of understanding and generosity.

To join us online for worship, please take advantage of any of the following live streaming options:
