Go Bako is a 4 day / 3 night “Stay at Home Mission Trip” for junior high, high school and college students in Bakersfield and greater Kern County. We believe that following Jesus means following his example of serving and loving our neighbors, and that is what Go Bako is all about!
Students will participate in service projects throughout the city that meet the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of our community. Over the past few years, we have volunteered with several local nonprofits and Christian ministries including The Mission at Kern County, Bakersfield Homeless Center, The Hope Center, Covenant Community Services (which operates Covenant Coffee), The Ronald McDonald House, and Teen Challenge.
These organizations have a proven record of meeting the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of some of the most at-risk members of our community. Serving them is a great blessing and enables our teens to see how a wide variety of talents and passions can be used in ministry.
We have also met directly with some of the neediest members of our community and visited with residents in an assisted living facility, provided sack lunches for the homeless, bus tickets for those in need, water bottles and even a cool zone for members of our community in the middle of summer.
In addition to serving in our community, we also have free time, organized group activities and all kinds of delicious snacks for our participants. And the best part is that it’s all free!
Go Bako is open to students who have just finished 6th-12th grade. College students may apply to serve as group leaders and/or chaperones.
